Jake, and Jake 2012, the Skatepark season begins

With the great weather we have been having lately, it’s fun for the boys to get to the skatepark once again.  Jake, and Jake have been doing this for 4 years, opening the season together..

And this year was no different.

Armed with BMX bikes, and some crazy MGP scooters, we had the opportunity to hit two skateparks, Chester, and the Halifax Commons.

Their skills has sure improved, and their tricks are getting crazier and crazier..

Tailwhips, heel-whips, 360’s, they are trying them all, and landing some of them.

Of course, I had to try my hand at HDR again.

The entire album is below, and suggest checking out some of the pictures, because there’s some epic failures there as well.

Jake and Jake in Chester, First Session 2012

Given March Break, there has been a significant number of changes with respect to our hockey weekend.  The #TasaIceDawgs are down a significant number of players, thus there was alot of shuffling of games and practices.

Saturday was a good example of this.  Our last Chester practice only saw 7 #TasaIcedawgs, but Davis showed up from Tasa1, and it was great to have him on the ice with us..   We also had another session at the BMO session at  12:45, and what was most impressive is that we saw a number of players from Tasa 1, and Tasa 2 show up.   Kudo’s to them, given one had a game in Kentville, and the other at Tasa…

This was great for me, as I was able to focus on Jake with some specific drills.  Our Carey Price Drill, Bring it, and targeted Net coverage…  Thanks Ken for the assist..

Now, after the practice, the Two Jake’s, Stevens, and #Goob29 hit the Chester Skatepark.  They were ready, with new Scooters in hand..

We were not at the park for more than 5 minutes when I noticed a BMX’er that I’ve taken pictures of before..  Well, it showed off one of his new tricks…

See the complete sequence given my new camera can now shoot 10 frames per second..

Well, what a great start to our first session for 2012.  Hard to compete against stuff like that, but Jake and Jake sure enjoyed the show.

Some Misc shots from the session, and he spent more time there, you can tell, he was getting use to his new Madgear Scooter..  Thanks Quebec Scooters for all the support and service over the last couple of years.

I think Jake likes his scooter!!!

After spending some time in the Park, he hits the bowl…

And get high up on the wall.

Time for air, and tail whips, landed two with the new scooter.  Although he loves snowboarding, I really think he likes that fact that the snow is gone!!

Step up to a Box

First crash.. Smile

My new Sony Alpha 65 had a built in HDR capability.   HDR is High Dynamic Range Processing capability.  Basically, three shots taken a different exposures.  Typically this is done in Software, but in this case, it’s built into the camera..

It does do some pretty cool stuff…

All the pictures, and there are some others that are Great as well.

Chester, 1st time this year… 4/10/2011

Well, after some time, we finally got back to chester for a scooter/bmx session…  We got in touch with Alex, Jake’s Cousin, and The Macdonald’s..

Turned out to be a nice day, if you were riding, but KEN and I were DAMN COLD!  Yikes.

It sure didn’t bother Ben, Cameron, Alex, and Jake, as they rode for a couple of hours.

Alex, and Jake, have been there before:

But this was Ben, and Cameron’s first time, and boy did they shred it up…

It was shortly after this session, that Cameron, and I got extremely SICK, and it’s only know that I’ve had a moment to post this..  Man, it was BAD, and I’ve prayed to a higher GoD!!

Jake rides the Commons again!!

So, after dealing with a nasty head cold, I decided to pickup Jake, a little early…  Needed to stay outside, so, after a couple of quick haircuts.  Yep, don’t take much for a haircut for the Goobie Boys…

We hit the SKATEPARK baby again..

Armed with the Flip camera, I had the opportunity to take a few video’s of Jake immersing himself in the Skateboard/bmx/scooter scene once again.

A few drop-ins, death drops, transfer’s, wall-rides, he was getting his groove on.

Also, grabbed some video’s for my Show and Share Server in our Lab..  Just love the Corporate / Social Facebook for the Enterprise!

I’m back!
Manual and small bowl drop
Practicing the 180

We are at another tournament this weekend, and really looking forward to playing in Trenton.  The IceDawgs are really excited, and should be a lot of fun.

Goobie OUT..

Jake, and Jake skate again.

Well, IT STOPPED RAINING, the Sun was shining, and We Remember our Veteran’s today, and We HIT a Skatepark…    We did stop at 11:00 for a moment, to Remember..

Then we skated…scootered, and rode our BMX Bikes..

DSC00887  Jake Steve, and Jake hit the Commons once again, for another epic adventure.  We had our bikes, and Scooters for this trip, and I got a chance to play with my new Nifty-Fifty F1.8 lens that I picked up..

Jake hit a few new areas on the park today, including a drop with his BMX bike, some crazy air out of the Small bowl on his BMX bike, and in the middle bowls, getting some height on a wall-ride.

Craziest trick in my opinion today was a Drop from the Big bowl area to the street section.. WOW..

For the complete album, check here..

It was landed, the Tailwhip, and it was landed 4 times during the session.

This year, has been pretty amazing..   I’ve been watching Jake all year, practicing this specific trick..  He’s been working hard on really all aspects of Skateboarding, BMX, and Scootering….  and I love watching him..

It started a number of years back, when Gertie said, ARE YOU NUTS, you bought Jake a Skateboard?  Well, he was 3, and I didn’t see any issue with that?   SK8 May2006 (1)  As I’ve said before, Jake takes on a different personality when he’s at the skatepark.  He’s known in Greenwood, Chester, Fall River, and at the Halifax Commons.  His scooter, and BMX bike are unique, and it’s really funny watching him interact with the older community.

It was a special day today, as Jake Stevens Joined Jake Goobie for this session.  Believe it or not, this started a number of years ago, where Jake, and Jake hit the skatepark for the first time together.  DSC00540  And they have been skating together for a bit now..  As we approach the end of this season, a number of new tricks has been learned.

  • The Tailwhip
  • 180’s
  • Turndowns
  • Drop in’s
  • Tail Taps
  • Wall Rides
  • Manuals
  • Nose Manuals
  • No Footers

Most recently Jake’s Cousin Alex has been going to the skatepark with Jake, and it’s been great for me to get to know Alex better.  Alex, has been progressing with his BMX skills, and most recently has been working on a 360…

His new trick is a Wheel grab.  What’s interesting about this, is how he enters the trick, dropping into the entrance of the big bowl at chester.

DSC00604DSC00610Pretty Awesome in my opinion.

Not to be out done on the BMX Bike..  DSC00631

Another new trick that was shown today by Jake was what I believe to be his first turn down, but he say’s, no daddy, I’ve been doing for awhile.. Smile  Ok then Son..

Fun Afternoon of Pit, and Park…

Jake, and I pipped off work early to try on a few dirt bikes at Pro Honda.. Shhh, don’t tell the boss.  After trying on a few bikes, I asked Jake where he wanted to head to this afternoon, Commons, or….   The BMX Pit in Fall River… Well, he was all over the Pit idea..

A few days earlier we decided to hit a another bmx dirt area in Timberlea.  Well, it was less than exciting, and Jake was sporting a bad knee from a dirtbike jumping issue.. Shh, don’t tell mom..

The Fall River bike Park “The Pit” was first visited by Jake, and I about 3 years ago, but jake at the Age of 4 really wasn’t completing transfers, gaps, or jumps..   Now, well that’s a different story…  Here’s a couple of pics of the session at the Pit.

After running up and down the Pit for about 45 minutes, and being respectful of time for mom..  Can’t be that late for supper, Jake, and I hit the Community Center Skatepark that we heard about from Alex, Jake’s 22 year old skating/BMXing buddy.

I know I’ve said this before, but there’s something about watching jake plan his runs, and watch others, in learning and understanding tricks..  When Jake was only 2 or 3, Gertie, and I watched Jake, watch a few kids doing Ollies on a skateboard.   Now Jake has always been very active, but it was odd to watch him just soak up the skills that some other kid had, and adapt them to his world.

Well, it happened again, tonight brought back a flood of memories for me, watching Jake, Soak up the scene, and watch / learn what the other kids where doing.  And as always, they were very respectful of his abilities, and his Scooter..

For a complete Album look, check below…  Just after this, it was time to return home, and beg forgiveness from Mom…  Given Jake has early hockey on Friday morning, we are hoping she’s in a forgiving mood.
