Jake, and Jake 2012, the Skatepark season begins

With the great weather we have been having lately, it’s fun for the boys to get to the skatepark once again.  Jake, and Jake have been doing this for 4 years, opening the season together..

And this year was no different.

Armed with BMX bikes, and some crazy MGP scooters, we had the opportunity to hit two skateparks, Chester, and the Halifax Commons.

Their skills has sure improved, and their tricks are getting crazier and crazier..

Tailwhips, heel-whips, 360’s, they are trying them all, and landing some of them.

Of course, I had to try my hand at HDR again.

Parker and Jake hit the Skatepark

Saturday morning, it was snowing, what do we do…. HEAD TO THE SKATEPARK BABY!

Jake was invited over to Parkers for a sleepover, think there was some planning happening between parker, and jake, after wendy dropped off a sweater from Icedawg Hockey..

Anyway, got the boys, and we head down to the commons…

Nice Manual Parker!

Jake rides the Commons again!!

So, after dealing with a nasty head cold, I decided to pickup Jake, a little early…  Needed to stay outside, so, after a couple of quick haircuts.  Yep, don’t take much for a haircut for the Goobie Boys…

We hit the SKATEPARK baby again..

Armed with the Flip camera, I had the opportunity to take a few video’s of Jake immersing himself in the Skateboard/bmx/scooter scene once again.

A few drop-ins, death drops, transfer’s, wall-rides, he was getting his groove on.

Also, grabbed some video’s for my Show and Share Server in our Lab..  Just love the Corporate / Social Facebook for the Enterprise!

I’m back!

We are at another tournament this weekend, and really looking forward to playing in Trenton.  The IceDawgs are really excited, and should be a lot of fun.

Goobie OUT..

What a WEEKEND!! Whew!!

Well, mommakintai was heading to the valley for a scrapbooking weekend with the girls, thus it was Jake, and I at home..  Ya man, Pizza, Steak, Root Beer, it had all the makings of a great weekend.

Jake, had hockey practice on Friday morning, and mom was shortly leaving after that…  But, Friday, I was still off, as I’m changing jobs, I decided to pickup Jake early from School, and hit the commons…  Oh ya, Epic Day at the Park once again.

DSC00990DSC00992DSC01007 It was a great impromptu session, where Jake spent most of his time 180’ing the middle bowl, and finding some interesting lines around that section.

Back home Jake, and I set everything up for Hockey in the morning, and some Dirtbiking with the usual gang of suspects.  Peter, Gregory, Lucas, Shane, and Josh.  Hockey in Chester started at 8:00, and then some dryland positional training ran until 10:00…  Then it was off to the pit.

DSC01025

Plans where set with Peter, that Saturday morning, after hockey, we would hit Exit 7, and some backroad, Pit areas for some great dirtbiking..

Jake was looking forward to guiding everyone into the pit area, as it was their first time to this special area.  He led everyone in perfectly, and told me to slow down.  Jake’s riding skills have sure improved over the last year, and I was extremely proud of him.  Not only is he a great rider, but he’s real good with his rider radar, and knowing what’s going on around him.  Now, I’m sure that may change, but for what right now, I’m extremely proud of my boy.  Personally I think it’s from the skatepark scene and keeping his head up there.

DSC01043DSC01065DSC01095This will be the last year on his DRZ-70, and I expect him to really enjoy a larger frame bike for sure.  He’s wants KTM, but will probably get a CRF-70.. or 80…

Peter and Lucas tear it up this trip, and where getting some incredible air.

Now let’s talk about the Dude Flying Very high on his CRF100…  I happened to get this picture perfectly, but it was a great crash.

DSC01081

Josh, and dad Shane where riding extremely well.  Josh hit a few jumps and it was awesome to see his progression..  Dad, well, let’s just say, he’s going to be very sore!

Even Gregory started to catch some air.

Well, after a GREAT steak at the covey’s and some socializing, Jake, and I retire home.  Sunday brings another opportunity to for some skatepark time again.

Jake had Daniels birthday party today, thus an early skatepark session was required.  Given the sun, and the closeness to SNOW, we try and get in as much as we can.

Today, at the skatepark, it was all about smoothness, Jake was really smooth today, his bowl 180’s were incredible, and his work in the big bowl was very cool as well.  Jake started working on his BMX skills doing some manuals, both nose and rear wheel, some transfers, and drop-ins.

DSC01115DSC01120

Just then moved to the scooter.  He moved into the bowls, and really smoothed out his 180’s.

Jake moved into the big bowl, and is getting higher up on the wall.

DSC01132DSC01135

His new trick is a lookback… DSC01125

New as well is a big jhop transfer.  DSC01151

Jake has been doing 180’’s, and 360’s on this scooter, but from time to time he will try on his bmx bike.  He started with some 90’s this morning, but decided his was going to try a 180 to roll-back.  This is what happened.  He continues to try.

Jake, and Jake skate again.

Well, IT STOPPED RAINING, the Sun was shining, and We Remember our Veteran’s today, and We HIT a Skatepark…    We did stop at 11:00 for a moment, to Remember..

Then we skated…scootered, and rode our BMX Bikes..

DSC00887  Jake Steve, and Jake hit the Commons once again, for another epic adventure.  We had our bikes, and Scooters for this trip, and I got a chance to play with my new Nifty-Fifty F1.8 lens that I picked up..

DSC00817DSC00823

Jake hit a few new areas on the park today, including a drop with his BMX bike, some crazy air out of the Small bowl on his BMX bike, and in the middle bowls, getting some height on a wall-ride.

DSC00902DSC00908DSC00928

Craziest trick in my opinion today was a Drop from the Big bowl area to the street section.. WOW..

DSC00913

For the complete album, check here..

It was landed, the Tailwhip, and it was landed 4 times during the session.

DSC00640

This year, has been pretty amazing..   I’ve been watching Jake all year, practicing this specific trick..  He’s been working hard on really all aspects of Skateboarding, BMX, and Scootering….  and I love watching him..

It started a number of years back, when Gertie said, ARE YOU NUTS, you bought Jake a Skateboard?  Well, he was 3, and I didn’t see any issue with that?   SK8 May2006 (1)  As I’ve said before, Jake takes on a different personality when he’s at the skatepark.  He’s known in Greenwood, Chester, Fall River, and at the Halifax Commons.  His scooter, and BMX bike are unique, and it’s really funny watching him interact with the older community.

It was a special day today, as Jake Stevens Joined Jake Goobie for this session.  Believe it or not, this started a number of years ago, where Jake, and Jake hit the skatepark for the first time together.  DSC00540  And they have been skating together for a bit now..  As we approach the end of this season, a number of new tricks has been learned.

  • The Tailwhip
  • 180’s
  • Turndowns
  • Drop in’s
  • Tail Taps
  • Wall Rides
  • Manuals
  • Nose Manuals
  • No Footers

Most recently Jake’s Cousin Alex has been going to the skatepark with Jake, and it’s been great for me to get to know Alex better.  Alex, has been progressing with his BMX skills, and most recently has been working on a 360…

His new trick is a Wheel grab.  What’s interesting about this, is how he enters the trick, dropping into the entrance of the big bowl at chester.

DSC00604DSC00610Pretty Awesome in my opinion.

Not to be out done on the BMX Bike..  DSC00631

Another new trick that was shown today by Jake was what I believe to be his first turn down, but he say’s, no daddy, I’ve been doing for awhile.. Smile  Ok then Son..

What a Great Sunday!!

This has been a crazy week, and starting Friday was Novice evaluations.  Jake started with 17 other goalies for his first Novice Goalie evaluations.  Jake was well prepared, as he’s played a lot of hockey over the spring and summer, and has transitioned into the Goaltending position very well.  Well, better than his dad did for sure.

Jake officially transitioned from Player to Goalie, really just after Christmas..  With the purchase of goalie mask, pads, chest protector, blocker, pants and glove, skates… We have officially committed for sure.  Since the end of Minor Hockey, we have been playing all spring and summer.

  • Nova Scotia Prospects 2003 .. (Goaltending)
  • Tyler Naugler’s week long summer camp (Goaltending)
  • Thane Hughes, Extreme Edge Goaltending camp (Goaltending)
  • Kirk Tomlinson’s Atom Elite Training, with Thane coaching (Goaltending)
  • Kirk Tomlinson’s Novice/Atom Practice Like the Pro’s Friday Sessions.. (Goaltending)

IMG_9614

He’s really looking forward to the up and coming season, and continued sessions with Thane, and Extreme Edge Goaltending.

I was helping out checking in the players, and making sure pennies where recorded, and that Christina had her players sheets in order.

Finally the last group had head out to the ice, and Gertie mentioned taking over my job, while I got to do what I love to do best.  Bringing jake to the skatepark, and getting to take some pictures of the boy doing his thing.  We had heard that Alex wanted to come as well, and would meet us at the commons.

Jakes session today included a number of Manuel’s, Nose Manuels, jumps, Wall-Rides, gaps, transfers..  There’s nothing more peaceful to me, than following jake around the skatepark on his BMX Bike, Skateboard, and Scooter.   What’s real funny is that Jake typically hangs with the other kids, and adults, and he has SkateparkCred.

Loved watching Jake today on his Scooter.  He attempted what looked like a 360 tailwhip going in his opposite directly.
