What a Great Sunday!!

This has been a crazy week, and starting Friday was Novice evaluations.  Jake started with 17 other goalies for his first Novice Goalie evaluations.  Jake was well prepared, as he’s played a lot of hockey over the spring and summer, and has transitioned into the Goaltending position very well.  Well, better than his dad did for sure.

Jake officially transitioned from Player to Goalie, really just after Christmas..  With the purchase of goalie mask, pads, chest protector, blocker, pants and glove, skates… We have officially committed for sure.  Since the end of Minor Hockey, we have been playing all spring and summer.

  • Nova Scotia Prospects 2003 .. (Goaltending)
  • Tyler Naugler’s week long summer camp (Goaltending)
  • Thane Hughes, Extreme Edge Goaltending camp (Goaltending)
  • Kirk Tomlinson’s Atom Elite Training, with Thane coaching (Goaltending)
  • Kirk Tomlinson’s Novice/Atom Practice Like the Pro’s Friday Sessions.. (Goaltending)

He’s really looking forward to the up and coming season, and continued sessions with Thane, and Extreme Edge Goaltending.

I was helping out checking in the players, and making sure pennies where recorded, and that Christina had her players sheets in order.

Finally the last group had head out to the ice, and Gertie mentioned taking over my job, while I got to do what I love to do best.  Bringing jake to the skatepark, and getting to take some pictures of the boy doing his thing.  We had heard that Alex wanted to come as well, and would meet us at the commons.

Jakes session today included a number of Manuel’s, Nose Manuels, jumps, Wall-Rides, gaps, transfers..  There’s nothing more peaceful to me, than following jake around the skatepark on his BMX Bike, Skateboard, and Scooter.   What’s real funny is that Jake typically hangs with the other kids, and adults, and he has SkateparkCred.

Loved watching Jake today on his Scooter.  He attempted what looked like a 360 tailwhip going in his opposite directly.

Twins in Nova Scotia as well

Received a call from Bill Simms, a fellow Ridetherock.com rider and contributor…  He just finished the Trans Labrador Highway on his new acquired Varadero..  Compliments of Dan at Simmons Powerhouse Honda in Gander..   She’s a beauty, and with her TKC’s, she’s even mean looking…  SWMotech Crashguards, and cans..  Truly Aventure Porn!!

Alex and Jake BMX again…

Through all the pressures that work tends to throw at you, I find a unique sense of peace watching my Son Jake, fly around a BMX park, leaping into the air, 180’s, Manuel’s, Nose Manuel’s, death drops, transfers, and drop-in’s….

We spent Saturday, and Sunday at Yogi, Jake got one quick session in at the Greenwood Skatepark, last one for the year I suppose…  We winterized the trailer, and she’s put to bed for another year.

My promise to jake was, let’s get the trailer winterized, drive home, unpack, and then we could head to the skatepark..  Well, let me tell ya, he helped get the Jeep unpacked, and handed the putting away duties over to mom..  Sorry about that Gertie. Sad smile

We had heard from Alex earlier in the morning, and I told him, we would be back after lunch.  Alex called just at the right time..   We met at the commons, and they were off.

Alex and Jake have skated/bmx/scooted a lot before, and it was sure nice to see them back at it again.

The picture above was done in three takes..  The first two were not so great, but showed some incredible air by alex.

Lately jake has been spending a lot of time on the Skateboard, and it was nice to see him back on the bike again..  Typically wall-rides, some small transfers, etc was par for the course.  For some reason, jake was inspired today, even though he has a small head cold, he was on-fire..

First he was watching Alex do a newly learned Nose Manuel… Then he had to do it.

Then a transfer in the small bowl.

Then it was a standard transfer, although alex was trying to 180 it, jake was having no part of that.

Then there some Jumping going on!!

Alex sure has improved his riding since we last saw him…  He’s did a jump out of the middle bowl to downward transfer.  It was awesome.

it sure was a great day at the Commons, thought we were going to be rained out, but no-sir, it was pleasure to run around with the camera, chasing after Alex, and Jake.

OH ya, the scooter still had some magic in it for sure.

South Alton 2010-9-12 NSORRA site

Well, today we decided to take a run to South Alton to play around with on the trails at the NSORRA site…    Jake, and I awaited at the Tantallon Esso while some some friends showed up with their bikes, to get gassed up…

Yep, the bikes are clean now, but they won’t be in a couple of hours…  Jake and I typically ride with the Covey Clan, Peter, Gregory, and Lucas..  or better known as the Group HONDA…

80’s vintage XR600, 200x vintage CRF70, and CRF100..

We also have their neighbors joining us today, the Mckenna’s… Should be fun with 7 bikes today…

Again, more with the CRF’s, a 50, and 230….

The Mckenna’s are rolling in with this badboy..

Shane would suggest that this rig spends alot of time at the pumps.. Cry

Alright, fueled up, it’s time to fuel up the bodies..  Macdonald’s, ya, ok, maybe not the best fuel, and given the renovations at MikkyD’s, we are sure glad the Mckenna Mobile was with us.. Breakfast was sure good.

Alrighty, the GPS coordinates plugged in, time to head to South Alton..  We camp up at Yogi, and typically take 12 so, shouldn’t be too hard to find it…

Not sure why I’m putzing around with Facebook, but uploaded this while I was driving..

Alrighty, the GPS led us directly to the Orange KTM Tape, good sign.. Clap

Let’s unload, and get going.  We decided to park where we found what seemed to be a small parking area, and then ride into the area, and of course the gate.

We had a mix of riders, and bikes really…  and unsure of what we would find, but we were looking forward to the ride..

Jake was sure looking forward to it, and to try out his new Pink Goggles.  It matches his shirt, and I personally think the cute girl at Pro Honda had Jake wrapped around her finger..

After the kids did about a doze laps just past the gate, we started studying the Map, and the board just inside the gate.  Great stuff, and we concentrated on the easy trails first, given the size and experience of some of the riders..

We found this little loop, and it began to be the start of a Super Fun Day… Jake loved the loops here..

The Mini-Jump…

The Retake:

Jake Loved this jump, and the boys started building it up a bit, Shhh, don’t tell mom…

Alright, bathroom break..

Well, it’s time for the Group Picture….  It’s been a wonderful morning of riding.  We explored most of the trails, with everyone..  We didn’t get many pictures in the morning session, but after lunch, I captured more..

Hmm, common theme at lunch, where the heck did those shirts come from?

The afternoon riding, we spent exploring the easy, and expert trails..  TON OF FUN…  First casualty was the CRF70…  an unfortunate meeting with a Rock…

Lucas (CRF100), and I (DRZ250) hit an expert trail, and found ourselves following the tape… :-)  Awesome, had a bunch of fun, zig zaging through the trails..

Jake getting ready for his next bike purchase, sneaks a run on Gregory’s CRF70, larger frame…  Given the jumps he’s doing, I’m thinking about better suspension. Shocked

There was a few area’s where the smaller bikes need some attention, but for the most part, the navigated their way around the area in fine fashion.

Great picture of Josh (CRF50) finding his way past one of the expert trails..  It’s amazing to watch the smaller kids duck under branches that typically give us larger folks trouble..

Guess what Jake found again…

Please don’t show this one to MOM…  Got a little quick before making a turn…

Alrighty, it was about this time, we decided, it’s time to go home..  Thanks NSORRA for a great area to challenge the kids technically, and have a whole bunch of fun…  They are all NSORRA trained, and it was great to see their smiles when they saw the sign..

Time to go home, clean up the chains, and bikes, let the boots dry, and start planning the next trip…

Jake, and Kent…

A day at Gamebreakers…

Well, jake was spending some time with Theron today, and Thane suggested a run over to Gamebreakers…  I’ve heard of this place, but hadn’t visited it before.  WOW..  What a facility.  Gamebreakers is an off ice, and on Synthetic ICE training facility.    Probably more suited for Shooters, but as a goalie, there’s opportunities to improve as well.

In the above video, jake is working on his c-cuts… The synthetic ice is a little heavy, but you sure get a burn..

Notice, the harness, just in case you go down, you get to practice a little mission impossible..
